IlustraExplora Project

We love projects that invite you to participate in natural themes and if they include illustration and nature even more! We want to present the IllustraExplora by Ilustraciencia.

IllustraExplora is a project created to give visibility to the books before the 21st century of illustration and natural history kept by museums and libraries in different countries to bring science and nature closer to society.

With this project, Illustraciencia wants to involve the public in a collaborative project, to value the importance, information, and beauty of these publications, which combine art, literature, nature, and science to advance our knowledge about all those that we surround.

We loved the idea! And we want to show our experience participating in the project with the visit to the Documentation Center of the Museu de Ciències Naturals of Barcelona, there are important bibliographical resources and facilitates all kinds of information about Earth and life sciences. There we find very interesting books such as "La Conchyliologie" published in Paris in 1757 by Antoine Joseph Dézallier d'Argenville where he shows a great diversity of seashells, freshwater, terrestrial and fossils where the illustrations are incredible as taken from an oil painting.

The colors of the shells are out of this world, with metalized tones and lapislázuli detail could make me see the book for hours, appreciate this book live is very different to see it in photographs. We find snails of all kinds shapes and colors, large and small shells, sea urchins and even octopuses, detailing each of the species found. A very nice book to discover!

The visit to the Documentation Center of the Museu de Ciències Naturals of Barcelona has been very nice to discover old books has been a unique experience, we want to thank Emma for receiving us and being so friendly showing us incredible books.
